Juan Carlos Caballero-Perez
Juan Carlos Caballero-Perez is a Metal artist and educator who came to the United States in 1986 from his home in Mexico City, Mexico. Carlos works as an Associate Professor in the Metals Program at Rochester Institute of Technology where he started in 2001.
He received his MFA and BFA at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), School for American Crafts. Carlos is a New York State Foundation of the Arts Fellow, Craft Alliance of New York State Career Development Grant Recipient and he teaches, gives demonstrations and lectures nationally and internationally. In addition, he was an invitee to the Melbourne International Mokume Gane Symposium, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Workshop venues include Penland School of Crafts, Touchstone Center for Crafts, Florida Society of Goldsmiths, Appalachian Center for Craft and the Southwest Center for Crafts among others.
Recent work includes the creation of several large public sculptures including National Technical Institute for the Deaf, Pieters Family Life Center, ArtWalk Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology. In addition, recent exhibitions include Art in Craft Media, Burchfield-Penney Art Center, Buffalo, NY; Reclaim, Reuse, Renew, The Atrium Gallery at Ball State University, Muncie, IN; The Edges of Grace; Fuller Craft Museum, Brockton, MA; Sculpture Garden, Pemberton, NJ; 8th International Enamel Exhibition, Richmond, CA; Five Countries Gold Exhibition, Tokyo, Japan; METALisms Center for Visual Art, Metropolitan State College of Denver, Denver, CO; Contemporary Crafts of NYS Invitational, and Soon Gallery: Seoul, Korea, among others.
